Gender Identity
There is a difference between sex and gender. They are often used interchangeably but they are very different. Sex is assigned as either male or female, based on a newborn’s genitalia. Once a sex is assigned at birth, we assume that’s the child’s gender. It is not that simple.
A person’s gender depends on the complex interrelationship between three dimensions: body, identity, and social gender. It takes years and maybe a full lifetime to really understand one’s gender. In therapy, we will spend time exploring not just these dimensions but any number of subjects (ex. Importance of using the right pronoun, exploring your gender expression).
In therapy, everyone will be given the chance to discuss their experience(s) in a safe, inclusive, and non-judgmental environment. I can help. Please contact me.
